A dozen employees fired by a Chandler Pei Wei Restaurant

A dozen employees who had been fired by a Chandler Pei Wei restaurant claim it was due to the controversial new immigration law.

The workforce tell us they were definitely let go following they attended a rally against SB 1070, but the restaurant says there is certainly more on the story. They apparently skipped out on their scheduled shifts to attend the protest.

Those twelve former employees want their jobs back again, and are also asking for back again pay and an apology from Pei Wei. They say other workers who didn't demonstrate as much as operate have been punished -- not fired -- and they shouldn't happen to be treated differently.

They're now taking their protest to Pei Wei's front door.

"I thought they had been gonna help us in 1 way but they did not," alleges Elizabeth Serafin, who was fired. She claims she failed to call in May 29 because other employees had asked for that day time off but were denied.

Twelve with the store's 30 staff failed to present up for operate to march inside anti-SB 1070 protest.

"We were hungry, we ended up thirsty¡­ it had been even worse than planning to deliver the results, we did not do it for enjoyable!" affirms Serafin.

Serafin claims that when other personnel have missed perform from the past, with no calling in, they ended up punished but not fired.

Yvonne Herrera also lost her work. She worked for Pei Wei for 10 years like a cook, devoid of actually getting a sick day time, she says.

Pei Wei issued the following statement: "We were definitely disappointed that twelve workforce from our Chandler area selected to violate a well-known attendance policy resulting in their termination. When employees chose not to demonstrate up for any scheduled shift and selected to not give discover, it leads to tremendous disruption to fellow coworkers and impedes our capacity to serve our guests."

Serafin claims she doesn't regret missing work to march for an matter she feels so strongly about.

'"We know [the immigration law] going to affect our families and even our jobs¡­ there is certainly a lot of people coming from an additional state. There's a lot of white folks performing that, how come we're not performing it for ourselves?"

A nearby employees union is helping the 12 individuals who had been fired. Protesters say they carry on to picket outside of Pei Wei from time to time.
